Description

A delightful and visually stunning angel food cake that is light, airy, and perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup egg whites (about 8 large eggs)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Red food coloring (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Use an ungreased angel food cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy, then add cream of tartar and salt, beating until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add the granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. Sift together cake flour and salt in a separate bowl, then fold into egg whites carefully.
  4. Mix in vanilla and almond extracts, and add red food coloring for desired shade. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Invert to cool completely before removing from pan.

Notes

Serve plain or with a dusting of powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream. Best enjoyed fresh.
