- 1 package chocolate cake mix
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 2 cups whipped cream
- 1/2 cup chocolate shavings
- 1/4 cup cherry liqueur (optional)
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and bake. Allow it to cool completely, then cut the cake into bite-sized cubes.
- In a large trifle dish, layer half of the chocolate cake cubes at the bottom.
- Drizzle the cherry liqueur over the cake cubes if using.
- Top with half of the cherry pie filling, spreading it evenly to cover the cake.
- Dollop half of the whipped cream on top of the cherries.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining cake, cherry filling, and whipped cream.
- Finish with chocolate shavings on top.
- Refrigerate the trifle for at least 120 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For a non-alcoholic version, omit the cherry liqueur or substitute with cherry juice.
