Description

A delightful Italian-style flatbread that combines the irresistible texture of freshly baked bread with savory breakfast favorites, perfect for weekend brunches or quick weekday breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Toppings of choice (cooked bacon, cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the dough on a baking sheet, using your fingers to create dimples across the surface. Add your toppings of choice. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the focaccia is golden.
  4. If adding eggs, crack them on top during the last 5 minutes of baking. Let cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm with sides like fresh fruit, yogurt, or coffee. Customize toppings for different flavors.
