Description
A comforting classic dessert that combines sweet and tart apples with luscious caramel, encased in a buttery crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pie crusts
- 6 cups sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter (to dot the top)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it gently against the bottom and sides.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Mix well to ensure that the apples are thoroughly coated in the sweet spice blend.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, and drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples.
- Cover with the second pie crust, sealing the edges by crimping. Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape, and dot the top with butter. Bake for 15 minutes then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. To store, cover tightly and keep at room temperature for 2 days or in the refrigerator for 5-7 days.
