Description
A warm, buttery cake topped with glossy caramel and tender apple slices, perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Peel and slice the apples.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Pour the caramel mixture into the prepared pan, and arrange the apple slices over it.
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, pour batter over apples.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then invert the cake onto a serving plate.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel. For best texture, let the cake rest a minute after inverting.
