Description

A warm, comforting treat blending creamy cream cheese with sweet caramel for a rich, custardy breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the loaf of bread into thick slices. Grease a baking dish large enough to hold the slices in a single or slightly overlapping layer.
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth and blended. Dip each bread slice into the cream cheese mixture, coating both sides evenly.
  3. Place the coated bread slices in the greased baking dish. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top of the layered bread, spreading a little if needed so the sauce covers evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the bread is golden on top and the filling is set.
  4. Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool 5–10 minutes. Serve warm, drizzled with more caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

For best results, use slightly stale bread and a good-quality caramel sauce. It can also be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
