Description
Fudgy, chocolatey squares studded with bright, tart cherries, delivering rich cocoa flavor and buttery chew.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cherries, pitted and halved
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan. Line it with parchment paper if you want easy lifting and cleaner edges.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until uniform. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- Fold in the cherries and chocolate chips, if using, gently so the cherries do not break apart. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting. Run a sharp knife warmed under hot water and wiped dry for cleaner slices. Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.
Notes
Store at room temperature for up to 2 days or keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Freeze for long-term storage.
