Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups fresh or frozen cherries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, powdered sugar, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. Press evenly into a greased baking sheet.
- In another bowl, whisk together sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread over prepared crust.
- In a separate bowl, mix cherries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and almond extract. Pour over sour cream layer.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until cherries bubble and crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool completely before serving. Brush edges with egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top.
Notes
For extra flavor, substitute almond extract for vanilla. Fresh cherries yield the best flavor, but frozen cherries are also great if thawed properly.
