Description

Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until fully combined.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Stir in boiling water carefully.
  4. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For variations, try adding peppermint extract or instant coffee granules. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
