Description

These chocolate sourdough muffins are a tender treat featuring a deep cocoa flavor with a subtle tang from the sourdough starter.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Mix the sourdough starter, flour, cocoa powder, sugar, milk, oil, egg, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until well combined.
  3. Whisk together the baking soda and salt in a separate small bowl.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for 3–5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
