Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Green food coloring
  • Red sugar or icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder, and set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Add green food coloring to achieve desired color.
  5. Roll dough into balls and flatten slightly on prepared sheets. Decorate with red sugar or icing.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are golden; let cool before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Chill dough if too soft for shape. Use gel food coloring for best results.
