Description

A beloved Italian dessert that combines rich flavors and creamy textures with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and velvety mascarpone.


Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming. Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
  3. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened. Remove from heat and cool completely.
  4. Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then fold into the cooled mascarpone cheese and add to the custard mixture.
  5. Mix brewed coffee with coffee liqueur. Quickly dip ladyfingers into the coffee mixture and layer half in a dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and remaining mascarpone.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  8. Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use high-quality ingredients and let the tiramisu chill sufficiently to hold its shape when sliced.
