A beloved Italian dessert that combines rich flavors and creamy textures with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and velvety mascarpone.

- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 8 oz mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and thick.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming. Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened. Remove from heat and cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then fold into the cooled mascarpone cheese and add to the custard mixture.
- Mix brewed coffee with coffee liqueur. Quickly dip ladyfingers into the coffee mixture and layer half in a dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and remaining mascarpone.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings before serving.
Notes
For best flavor, use high-quality ingredients and let the tiramisu chill sufficiently to hold its shape when sliced.
