Description
A simple and comforting dessert that blends rich cocoa and a hint of coffee for depth. Moist with a tender crumb and pretty swirls, this cake is a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brewed coffee, cooled
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and cooled coffee.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Add extra cocoa to the remaining batter, mix, and pour it over the first layer. Swirl to create a marble effect.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For variations, consider adding nuts, orange zest, or a simple glaze.
