Description

A classic comfort food featuring a luscious cheese sauce coating tender macaroni. Perfect for family dinners and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions in a large pot of boiling salted water. Once al dente, drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly, creating a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted and smooth.
  4. Combine the cheese sauce with the drained macaroni in a large bowl. Pour into a greased baking dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

For extra creaminess, use different cheeses like Gruyère or add cooked proteins. Can be adapted with various vegetables for added nutrition.
