Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine sliced strawberries with 1/2 cup of sugar and let sit for 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup of sugar.
- Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Spoon the strawberries with their juices over the batter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean and the cake is golden brown.
- Let the cake cool slightly before serving warm with whipped cream.
