Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine sliced strawberries with 1/2 cup of sugar and let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup of sugar.
  4. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Spoon the strawberries with their juices over the batter.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean and the cake is golden brown.
  8. Let the cake cool slightly before serving warm with whipped cream.
