Description

A comforting dish combining the flavors of French onion soup with ground beef and rice, topped with gooey cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (e.g., Swiss or Gruyère)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, browning it while breaking it into chunks. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. In a large bowl, combine French onion soup, beef broth, uncooked rice, and the beef and onion mixture. Stir well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30-35 minutes until rice is tender.
  6. Remove the foil, top with shredded cheese, and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider using a mix of beef broth and red wine. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for added nutrition.
