Description

A delightful twist on the classic breakfast favorite, this French toast casserole is savory, easy to prepare, and perfect for feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably challah or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the prepared baking dish. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter on top. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  4. Remove from the fridge and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and set. Allow to cool slightly before serving with powdered sugar and warm maple syrup.

Notes

Use stale bread for better absorption. Customize with fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips for a personal touch.
