Description

French Toast Cups turn simple pantry bread into a warm, comforting breakfast that looks and tastes special, with a crispy edge and soft custardy inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Butter for greasing
  • Maple syrup (optional for serving)
  • Fresh fruit (optional for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin well with butter.
  2. Cut each bread slice into quarters.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Dip each bread piece briefly into the egg mixture and press them into the greased muffin tin, forming a cup shape.
  5. Pour any remaining custard over the cups, filling each cup about three-quarters full.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes, checking at 15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and set.
  7. Let the cups cool for 3–5 minutes before removing from the tin.
  8. Serve warm with maple syrup and fresh fruit.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better soaking and structure. Don’t oversoak each piece for best texture.
