- 1 box angel food cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 container (8 ounces) whipped topping, thawed
- 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the angel food cake mix instructions.
- Prepare the angel food cake mix with water and bake according to package directions. Once baked, let the cake cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Fold in the whipped topping gently until fully combined.
- Once the cake has cooled completely, cut it into pieces and layer half of them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the cake pieces.
- Add half of the cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese mixture.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cake pieces, cream cheese mixture, and cherry filling.
- If desired, top with chopped pecans for an extra crunch.
- Chill the layered cake in the refrigerator for at least 120 minutes before serving.

For best results, ensure cream cheese is at room temperature and allow adequate chilling time for flavors to meld.
