Description

A rich and creamy homemade eggnog that brings warmth and cheer during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup rum (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy. Gradually add the sugar, continuing to beat until well blended.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the milk and cream. Heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
  3. Slowly whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture to temper the eggs. Return to saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 10 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, nutmeg, and rum (if using). Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

For best taste, use fresh, high-quality eggs. Adjust sugar to taste and experiment with spices for variations.
