Description

A delightful and chewy candy that evokes nostalgic memories of seaside boardwalks. Fun to make and customize with flavors and colors!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon flavored extract (e.g., vanilla, peppermint)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Confectioner’s sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature closely until it reaches 260°F (hard ball stage).
  3. Remove the pan from heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  4. Add the flavored extract and, if desired, your choice of food coloring to give your taffy a fun hue. Grease your hands with butter or oil, then knead the taffy for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Pull the taffy until it lightens in color. Shape it into long ropes and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Dust with confectioner’s sugar to prevent sticking and store in an airtight container.

Notes

To keep taffy fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. Wrap each piece in wax paper for longer freshness.
