Description

This soft, slightly sweet sourdough bread is full of warm oat flavor and perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and honey in a large bowl. Stir until well mixed.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, oats, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Incorporate the olive oil into the dough.
  4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a greased bowl for 4–6 hours.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan and let it rise for 1–2 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool the loaf fully on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Use an active sourdough starter and warm water for best results. Watch dough for rising times as they can vary with temperature.
