Description

These flaky and sweet Maple Pecan Plaits are made from puff pastry and filled with sticky maple and toasted pecans, making them a delightful breakfast treat or elegant dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface. Unfold or roll out the puff pastry to smooth any creases. Chill for 10 minutes if necessary.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the chopped pecans, maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until the nuts are evenly coated. Optional: Toast the pecans in a dry pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Cut the pastry into strips, leaving one side attached. Spoon the pecan mixture down the center and fold the strips over in an alternating pattern to form a plait. Brush with beaten egg.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden. Let cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For best texture, serve warm. These plaits can be made ahead and frozen unbaked, then baked fresh later.
