Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups pitted plums, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a gentle boil.
  2. Add the chopped plums, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice to the syrup. Stir to combine so the plums are coated.
  3. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the plums are soft and the mixture thickens into a glossy syrup.
