Description

Delight in the nostalgic flavors of buttery cherry bars, featuring a soft cake-like base topped with cherry pie filling and a crumbly topping, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, stirring until just combined. Reserve 1 cup of dough for topping.
  4. Press remaining dough into the bottom of the baking dish. Spread cherry pie filling over the dough base and crumble reserved dough on top.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Store leftover cherry bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for about a week. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
