Description

Warm, soft breadsticks with a buttery garlic finish, perfect for pairing with soups or family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Garlic salt (to taste)
  • Butter (melted, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let this sit for 5–10 minutes until the surface becomes foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Slowly pour in the foamy yeast mixture and the olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
  5. After it has risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long breadstick and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Cover and let them rise again for 20–30 minutes. While they rest, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Bake the breadsticks for 10–12 minutes, until the tops turn golden.
  8. Right after the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle garlic salt to taste. Let them cool just enough to handle. Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days. For freezing, wrap individually and place in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.
