Description
A comforting and quick one-skillet meal featuring tender steak, creamy honey BBQ sauce, and fluffy rice — perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb steak (sirloin or ribeye)
- 1 cup rice (long grain or jasmine)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup honey BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion (diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: green onions and parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Season the steak on both sides with salt and pepper. Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Measure out the rice, beef broth, honey BBQ sauce, and heavy cream so everything is ready.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the seasoned steak and cook until browned on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side for medium depending on thickness). Remove the steak to a cutting board, let rest for a couple of minutes, then slice thinly and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté over medium heat until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the rice, coating it in the oil and aromatics, then pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for about 15-18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid too often.
- Once the rice is cooked, stir in the honey BBQ sauce and heavy cream until smooth and creamy. Return the sliced steak to the skillet, stirring gently to combine and heat the steak through for 1-2 minutes. Taste and adjust salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped green onions and parsley if desired, then serve warm.
Notes
Pairs well with bright sides like a simple green salad or steamed broccoli. Can be made dairy-free by using coconut milk instead of heavy cream.
