- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 8 slices rye bread
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Black pepper, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt two tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are golden and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix well and form it into four equally-sized patties.
- In the same skillet, add the beef patties and cook on medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Assemble the sandwiches with rye bread, a beef patty, a slice of Swiss cheese, and caramelized onions.
- Grill the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Remove the toasties from the skillet, cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve hot.
