Description

A warm, comforting brunch dish that tastes like a cross between peach cobbler and custardy French toast, perfect for a cozy morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of brioche or challah bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 can of sliced peaches (in syrup) or 2 cups fresh sliced peaches
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Optional: powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Cut the brioche or challah into 1-1.5 inch cubes and place evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth. Pour over bread cubes, pressing gently to soak the bread. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Layer drained peach slices over the soaked bread, tucking between the cubes.
  5. Mix brown sugar with a pinch of cinnamon and sprinkle over the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and custard is set.
  7. Let cool for 5-10 minutes, then serve warm with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture. Drain canned peaches well to avoid a watery dish.
