Description
A classic British dessert featuring a creamy custard base topped with fruity jam and fluffy meringue.

- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 1 cup fruit jam (raspberry or strawberry)
- A pinch of salt
- 3 egg whites
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Cook over low heat until thickened.
- Fold in the bread crumbs and salt, then pour into the baking dish. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and golden.
- Spread jam on top, beat egg whites to stiff peaks, then spread over the jam. Return to oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes until meringue is golden.
Notes
Serve warm or chilled with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
