Description

A classic British dessert with creamy custard, fruity jam, and fluffy meringue, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of white bread
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of raspberry jam
  • Egg whites for meringue (approximately 2 to 3)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in a baking dish.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk, sugar, and butter until melted. Pour this over the bread and let soak for 10 minutes.
  4. Beat the eggs and add the vanilla extract, then mix into the soaked bread mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until set.
  6. Remove the pudding from the oven and spread raspberry jam evenly over the top.
  7. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then spread over the jam layer.
  8. Bake again for another 10 minutes or until the meringue is golden.

Notes

Choose day-old bread for better absorption. You can substitute raspberry jam with other flavors like strawberry or lemon curd.
