Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Scoop balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes and cool on the baking sheet.
  8. For the frosting, beat together the softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Frost the cooled cookies generously with cream cheese frosting and serve.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for a vibrant color. Store frosted cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
