Description
A comforting roast beef dish served with a rich caramelised onion gravy, perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 kg beef roast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon flour (optional for thickening)
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Season the beef roast generously with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the seasoned beef roast for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
- Remove the roast and cook the sliced onions in the same skillet for 10-15 minutes until caramelised and golden brown.
- Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to the onions, then return the beef roast to the skillet and cover. Roast for 1.5 to 2 hours.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, after roasting, remove the roast, mix flour with water to create a slurry, and add it to the gravy. Stir until thickened.
- Slice the roast beef and serve topped with the caramelised onion gravy.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate the beef overnight with seasonings. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
