Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in any flavors or mix-ins you desire.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
- Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges or shapes.
- Place shaped scones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Let cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack and enjoy.
Notes
For extra flaky scones, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before shaping and baking. Serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.
