Description

Delightful and flaky scones that can be customized with various flavors for breakfast, snacks, or tea.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk (or cream)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Any flavoring or mix-ins (e.g., dried fruit, chocolate chips, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in any flavors or mix-ins you desire.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  8. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges or shapes.
  9. Place shaped scones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes.
  10. Let cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack and enjoy.

Notes

For extra flaky scones, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before shaping and baking. Serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.
