Description

An easy, comforting bread with a soft crumb and a warm, golden crust, perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g bread flour
  • 350ml water
  • 100g sourdough starter
  • 10g salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the bread flour and water in a mixing bowl and mix until there are no dry bits. Let it rest for 30 minutes to autolyse.
  2. Add the sourdough starter and salt, then knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and slightly elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 4–6 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Gently deflate, shape the dough into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 1–2 hours.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) while the dough finishes its final rise.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until the crust is deep golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack for at least 30–60 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For serving, slice thick or thin; serve warm with butter or use for sandwiches.
