Description

A soft, tender sourdough sandwich loaf with a mild tang, perfect for sandwiches and toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and sourdough starter in a large mixing bowl. Stir until the starter breaks up and the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the salt and olive oil to the liquid. Gradually add the flour, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 4–6 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough gently and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan and let it rise for 1–2 hours until puffy.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while the loaf finishes rising.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool the loaf on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Wrap the loaf in a tea towel for storage; freezes well for up to 3 months.
