Description

Tender, buttery sugar plum shortbread cookies with sweet, chewy chopped dried plums, perfect for holiday platters and homemade gifts.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped dried plums (or prunes)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes with a hand mixer).
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract, then gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until the dough just comes together.
  4. Fold in the chopped dried plums gently without overworking the dough.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 to 1.25 inches) and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1.5 inches apart.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with granulated sugar if desired.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 3–4 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For cleaner shapes, chill the dough balls for 15 minutes before baking. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
