Description

This Vegan Orange Chicken features crispy tofu tossed in a tangy orange glaze, offering a plant-based alternative to a takeout favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of minced ginger
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture and cut it into cubes. Pat dry with paper towels before coating.
  2. In a bowl, mix orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes to make the sauce. Stir until the sugar mostly dissolves.
  3. Toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated tofu until golden and crispy on all sides, about 6–8 minutes total, turning gently.
  4. Pour the orange sauce over the tofu and cook for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. Stir gently so the tofu stays crisp. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

For a lighter meal, serve in lettuce wraps or with steamed vegetables on the side.
