Description

A delightful pastry with layered dough and warm apple filling, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chilled, diced unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • Milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather all your ingredients.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sugar and sour cream until just combined.
  3. Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Toss apple slices with cinnamon, lemon juice, and brown sugar in another bowl.
  5. Roll out one portion of the dough into a rectangle (12×16 inches), placing it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the apple mixture over the dough.
  6. Roll out the second portion of dough and place it over the filling. Seal the edges with a fork.
  7. Brush the top of the kringle with a beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Once cooled, drizzle a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the kringle. Slice and serve.
