- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chilled, diced unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for glaze)
- Milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather all your ingredients.
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sugar and sour cream until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Toss apple slices with cinnamon, lemon juice, and brown sugar in another bowl.
- Roll out one portion of the dough into a rectangle (12×16 inches), placing it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the apple mixture over the dough.
- Roll out the second portion of dough and place it over the filling. Seal the edges with a fork.
- Brush the top of the kringle with a beaten egg.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Once cooled, drizzle a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the kringle. Slice and serve.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Freeze for up to 3 months.
