Ingredients

  • 1 envelope active dry yeast (1 tablespoon)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • ½ cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the yeast mixture. In a small bowl, combine half a cup of warm milk with the active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Combine the sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Whisk everything together until well blended.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture to this mix and stir until everything is combined.
  4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, cinnamon, and salt to the mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. Spread apple butter over the dough and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before enjoying!

Notes

Serve warm, optionally drizzled with icing. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
