Description
A delightful brunch treat with custard-soaked bread and crunchy pecans, perfect for family gatherings or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- Butter for greasing
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking and give a lovely rich flavor to the toast.
- Cut the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in the greased baking dish. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure each piece is well soaked. This step is crucial for that custardy texture.
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly on top of the soaked bread. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for optimal flavor and texture.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture is fully set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to settle and make it easier to slice.
Notes
Use day-old bread for better texture and adjust sweetness as desired. Can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight.
