Description
Churro French Toast combines the delicious crunch of churros with the soft custard-like center of traditional French toast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little of the melted butter so the pan is lightly coated.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture. Let each slice soak slightly — about 10–20 seconds per side for thicker bread. Do not oversoak or the bread will become soggy.
- Place the soaked bread in the preheated skillet. Cook about 2–3 minutes per side, or until the surface is golden brown and slightly crisp. Work in batches if needed and add more butter to the pan between batches.
- Once cooked, remove the toast from the skillet and drizzle with melted butter. In a small bowl, combine the 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, then sprinkle or roll the warm French toast in the cinnamon sugar to coat. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Great when topped with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup. For a baked version, try assembling soaked bread in a baking dish and baking.
